CLASSES

Our 5hr classes are suitable for anyone new to working with clay, as well as those with some experience who would like to dedicate time to working with a tutor, there are only 6 participants in a class so there is plenty of time for 1:1 support and questions.

HAND BUILDING

During this 5hr class you will make a slab-built mug, with a handle and a coil-built pot, you will then choose from a wide choice of food-safe glazes for us to apply.

Building with coils and slabs are foundational pottery techniques, used to construct vessels and sculptural forms, on this workshops you will learn how to:

  • Roll even coils and slabs

  • Control a form

  • Build in a way that reduces the chance of cracking during firing

  • Finish and fettle

We will bisque-fire your pots, apply your choice of coloured food-safe glazes and fire to 1220 degrees.

SLIP CASTING

During this 5hr class you will make a pair of bowls or beakers, we will provide the moulds, but we will also demonstrate how you would make your own.

Slip casting is a process usually used to produce multiples of the same form, but it's a lot of fun too. On this course you will learn how to:

  • Time a casting for walls of differing thickness

  • Cast in a way that minimises warping during firing

  • Use coloured decorating-slips in the casting process

  • Finish and fettle

We will bisque-fire your pots, apply a clear food-safe glaze and fire to 1220 degrees.

WHEEL THROWING

Wheel throwing is a unique process that takes practice to master, but it's a lot of fun and incredibly rewarding. It can be used to produce beakers and bowl forms.

On this introductory workshop you will begin to master the fundamentals of wheel throwing, focussing on centering and developing good technique. You will select two of your thrown beakers for us to fettle and fire.

We will bisque-fire your pots, apply your choice of coloured food-safe glazes and fire to 1220 degrees.
