During our three-hour family workshops you will create a press-moulded earthenware bowl and decorate it with: relief decoration, stenciled underglazes, sgraffito, painting and trailing. After the workshop your bowl will be fired and glazed, ready to collect 2 weeks later.
This workshop is suitable for all ages and we would encourage adults to book a place for themselves too; under 7’s will need to work with an adult so they go free with a paying adult.
The time is yours during the workshop (younger participants may not want to stay three hours) and we have an enclosed garden next to the pottery studio if you want to take a break. We do ask that you please arrive on time though, as we will start with a demonstration.
If you manage a group for young-people aged 7+ and you’re interested in pottery please get in touch, we’d be happy to discuss options.
The pottery can accommodate 16 people at a time. For younger attention spans we would recommend sessions no more than 1.5hr sessions and an 8-10 week program.
During an 8-10 week project we could either:
a) provide a varied introduction to working with clay, including: hand-building, press moulding, throwing and surface decoration, where participants create a small collection of objects such as mugs and bowls to take home.
b) work towards a specified outcome as a group, for example a ceramic wall mural, an outdoor sculpture or a range of tableware to sell as part of an enterprise project.
For groups of 12 or more a weekly 1.5hr workshop would cost £10- 12 per person, per week, depending on the materials involved.
